The President of Georgia hosted a Parliamentary delegation of Kyrgyzstan today. The representatives of five divisions of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan are currently learning about the reforms of Georgia in the spheres of economy, healthcare, education as well as the police. The delegation is especially interested in the fight against corruption, because their aim is to share the Georgian experience. During the conversation with them, the President noted that there is a huge potential for democratic development in Kyrgyzstan and everything can be achieved in such conditions.
Giorgi Baramia, Chairman of the Government of Abkhazia and Giorgi Asanidze, Georgian Parliament Majority Member met with IDPs from Abkhazia compactly settled at Mukhiani 2nd micro-region, Tbilisi. They got acquainted with the IDPs' living/social issues and promised to resolve them in their favor.
The President of Georgia is participating in the Munich Security Conference. Mikheil Saakashvili addressed the participants of the forum and spoke about the reforms that have been implemented in Georgia since the Rose Revolution. The Head of State also drew attention to the security of the region. The Munich Security Conference panel was discussing democratic reforms in the Arab countries, which have embarked on the road to democratic transformation and Georgia was being reviewed as a positive example by the MSC panel.
First of all, I would like to note that I have held meetings at the Oval Office before and all of them were good, but I have never left this room loaded with so many specific results; especially at a moment when this is very important for Georgia.
PRESIDENT OBAMA: Well, I want to welcome President Saakashvili and his delegation here, and it’s a wonderful occasion to have him here as we’ll be celebrating this year 20 years of independence for Georgia and the eighth anniversary of the Rose Revolution.
Mikheil Saakashvili has already left for the United States as a result of the personal invitation of Barack Obama. The Presidents of Georgia and the United States will hold an official meeting at the Oval Office of the White House on January 30th.
The Chairman of the Committee on Health Care and Social Issues, Otar Toidze spoke about the renewal of an agreement between "The Government of Georgia and the Republic of Turkey on Cooperation in Social Protection Sphere” with the members of the Turkish delegation.
The President of Georgia visited Svaneti today. Mikheil Saakashvili toured the ongoing construction works and reviewed the process of implementing infrastructural projects. The Head of State and a Georgian singer – Niaz Diasamidze visited the 4 meter Bronze sculpture of King Tamar, which was designed according to an ancient Georgian image, created in the old Georgian style. Vaja Melikishviil and Shota Bostanashvili are the designers of the sculpture.
The President of Georgia met the Georgian sailors, led by an official Georgian delegation, who arrived in Turkey from Kenya after being rescued from the captivity of Somalian pirates. The Prime Minister of Turkey met the sailors along with the President of Georgia.
Deputy Chairman of the Parliament Anzor Bolkvadze and Mikheil Makharadze, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Adjara together with the church parish met Christmas at Khulo Church of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary.
By initiative of the Chairman of Abkhazian Government Giorgi Baramia and supported by the International humanitarian organization "Good Samaritan in Georgia", gifts were presented to IDP children from Abkhazia compactly settled at #104 kindergarten in Gldani, Tbilisi.
Today, by initiative of the Government of A/R Abkhazia and "Nikora" company's financial support presents were given to Abkhazian families settled in Lilo, Tbilisi.
The main goal of the project was to show governmental concern and care about IDPs.
